Masquerade Ball Wedding – Portland Alberta Abbey – Marly & Casey

Casey and Marly’s Unforgettable Masquerade Ball Wedding in Portland, Oregon at the Alberta Abbey.

Gather ’round because this is a love story that spans 17 incredible years, but believe it or not it’s only been 3 years since Casey and Marly officially decided to give love a shot. Can you believe it? Picture this: Casey would call whenever he was in town, and guess what?  Marly always picked up.  They were thick as thieves, always close friends, but it took the chaos of COVID-19 to bring them even closer.

So, here’s the scoop.  Casey, being the determined guy he is, tried to pop the question during their first weekend in New Orleans.  But Marly, the practical one, put her foot down, saying no major decisions until they’ve dated a year and lived together for at least 6 months.  Crafty Casey made his move during Thanksgiving, and with a home in order, he conveniently moved in. Sneaky, huh?

Fast forward to their first anniversary, and Casey seized the moment to propose.  Now, for their Masquerade Ball wedding, it’s their 3rd anniversary.  Yes, they are planning for a future filled with unforgettable adventures.

Their wedding day called everyone to wear classy Masquerade Masks and 1920s fancy clothes.  Marly and Casey wanted everyone to go all out with outrageous outfits, embracing the Halloween weekend spirit.  Forget the white; think gold and burgundy or any color that tickles a fancy.  They didn’t care about perfect suit matching or dress length. It was all about expressing creative flair because they’ve always dreamt of a masquerade, and now it was everyone’s time to shine!

Their “Le Ceremony” kicked off with drinks and seats upstairs in the Alberta Abbey auditorium.  After the ceremony, it was canapes, cocktails, and light appetizers time.  Dinner delights featured multiple food stations, each with its own vibe.  The night was filled with speeches, and Shakespearean expressions of love, and then the real party began—dance, dance, dance, and karaoke!  Upstairs was the place to belt out your favorite tunes, chill in hideaways, drink, and be merry.

The stroke of midnight marked the official proclamation of Marly & Casey being pronounced “Man and Wife.”  Festivities continued from midnight to 4 am, and the after-hours party kicked in with DJs, more speeches, dancing, bubbles, and even a tattoo bus for the adventurous ones. During the entirety of this wedding our trusted Geekoto lights and Magnetmod light modifiers were critical to helping us light up all the emotions and action with the right angles and pin light focus. This was the darkest wedding we’ve ever photographed, very tricky and technical; 90% of our photos were taken with flash.  We work hard as a team to get all the priceless moments! One of Marly and Casey’s favorite sayings is from Leo Buscaglia, “A life lived in love will never be dull.”  They are loving and living it!
