Rianne and Shandy’s underwater Kona Village engagement adventure started off by plunging deep into a slice of heaven for their weekend Hawaiian wedding celebration. Since we were spending several days with them we were easily able to become “one” with everything and everyone. From a fun underwater shoot at 2 step beach, walking along thick sand beaches, to an intimate hike along jet black lava cliffs near Kona Village.

Rianne and Shandy’s underwater Kona Village engagement adventure was the perfect way to kick off their Hawaiian wedding weekend. We had the chance to spend a few days with them, which allowed us to connect with them and explore ideas for their engagement session.

We started with an underwater photo shoot at 2 Step Beach. It’s one of the best spots for capturing clear water and vibrant marine life. Rianne and Shandy dove right into the water, laughing, playing and doing several deep dives. We know that inviting our couples to “do something active” is the best way for us to find their real personalities and chemistry. As for us, well, we did many deep dives ourselves holding our breath for long periods of time way deep down while pointing our cameras up to square up with their movement. Not an easy task, but crazy fun!

Our second location was walking along one of Kona’s quieter beaches. The thick, soft sand and the sound of the waves created the perfect atmosphere. This wasn’t about posing, it was about them being present in the moment and organically enjoying each other’s company, which made for some great authentic photos.

For our third location we hiked along the lava cliffs near Kona Village. The stark black lava against the ocean and their white outfits was a great contrast that added to the drama of our photography.

The light of Hawaiian sunsets invites the most dreamy feelings. Salty air, silky sand, ocean sounds, gardenia fragrances wafting everywhere. What better way to set the mood for your wedding than with a Kona Village engagement adventure? This adventure session perfectly kickstarted their multi-day Kona Village Bungalows wedding.
