It’s no exaggeration to say that Lisa and Brian’s Chesapeake Bay wedding was outside of time. They tend to live in a bit of a “dream world.” Their Portland house looks like a haunted home of a ship captain, a faerie, and a crazy cat lady. Together they are in the process of writing a children’s book (Lisa writing, Brian illustrating), and they have deep-rooted love for animals, boats, and all that is weird in the world. They got engaged at a Welsh, lakeside castle in Washington, where Brian proposed with a picnic in a fairytale garden, a total surprise to Lisa. Lisa is a wedding event manager and freelance wedding designer, Brian a project manager at Nike and illustrator. Naturally their destination wedding was a creation of their vast imaginations and skills. Their style was eclectic, kind of a vintage, nautical Gatsby vibe, sweetly charming, whimsical with colors of white, nude, and grey. Brian drew all of the wedding designs while Lisa colored and photoshopped them together: the invites, save the dates, wedding logo, the table boats, menu, unplugged wedding sign. It was really important to have it come from them and really fit their aesthetic. Having everybody that they love stay together for three days in this incredible spot made for an extraordinary experience. From the crab feast welcome dinner, their wedding day, the day after cruise with a surprise proposal this wedding was off the charts. So much that we had to share a big screen highlight slideshow at their recent Portland celebration (last image).
They said the greatest part of their Chesapeake Bay wedding was being present with each other and their friends. “The moment we saw each other for our first look, because it was so emotional and completely private and that’s when all the stress of the day and months went away and we were just there together, completely present. The power of the lightning and fury of the tropical storm at the end of the night was the greatest finish to our celebration. Lightning! To be honest, we were hoping for lightning, and we got it. We had been worried about the weather for months, but it turned out perfectly – it was so warm that people appreciated the light drizzle and everyone came out of the tent and danced in the rain with us, which was completely magical. We also got lightning bugs – we were told that they wouldn’t be around, but were so thrilled to see them lighting up the bay (and the flower faeries were totally enchanted by them as well!) We also got a pod of dolphins that swam by at the rehearsal and the day of the wedding, which apparently never happens there – Lisa makes a pretty mean dolphin noise, and did it about 20 minutes before they showed up, so she is pretty much convinced that she brought them there.”
This Chesapeake Bay wedding was our “all in” adventure where we “become one” with everyone through the entire experience. From the very beginnings to the very end we aim to capture every moment in the most creative light, composition and emotion possible. In this timeless space all the magic shows up.
Their honeymoon plans for next year are to go to Europe and continue the adventure. They are thinking Bruges, Prague, Cinque Terre, Paris, and Venice.
